Ex.Pgirl was founded in 2002 by Suzi Takahashi, Bertie Ferdman, Kiyoko Kashiwagi, and Paula Salomon. Hailing from four different countries (France/PR, Japan, Argentina, and USA), and four different artistic disciplines (Theater, Mime, Dance and Circus), Ex.Pgirl was created to compose work that stylistically reflected the diversity of experience of its members. Ex.Pgirl's first production, Ablution, was created for the American Living Room Festival at HERE. It was then selected to participate in The Best of the American Living Room Festival 2002 as well as The Artists of Tomorrow Festival in 2003. Ex.Pgirl is in its second year of residency with the HERE Artists in Residency Program for hybrid performance. Waving Hello was developed as part of the residency program and has participated in two workshop performances in 2003-2004 . Ex.Pgirl collaborates with an international team of composers, musicians and video artists. Previously, the members of Ex.Pgirl have worked for artists and companies such as: Richard Foreman, Richard Schechner, Anne Bogart/SITI Company, Phil Soltanoff and mad dog, Jaques Lecoq, Williamstown Theatre Festival, BITEF, MASS, MoCA, David Sale, Yoshiko Chuma, and Ellen Cornfield.
Ex.Pgirl is a recipient of the 2004 Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art.
Ex.Pgirl seeks to create a new perception of the growing intercultural identity of America. Dedicated to creating powerful visual images from simple objects, Ex.Pgirl seeks to tell new stories of the American experience in a language of movement and music, transcending beyond the spoken word.
